Brent Gilroy

Brent offers clients more than 40 years of experience in numerous communications roles. Initially a journalist in Metro Atlanta and Greenville, SC, he spent 30 years in Washington, DC. There, he served as Press Secretary and Chief of Staff for U.S. Rep. George (Buddy) Darden of Georgia, then as a Vice President at public affairs firms Burson-Marsteller and Powell Tate before launching an independent public affairs practice in 2000. Brent has been based in Charlotte since 2015

Brent has addressed challenges in fields as diverse as aerospace, defense, energy, healthcare, transportation, and international trade. He frames issues and messages in ways that are easy for audiences to understand, fostering support in even highly-controversial matters. He is a skilled writer who understands the importance of clear, concise, and compelling presentations.

In formulating strategies for clients, Brent excels at building integrated teams of professionals– including specialists in coalition building, presentation training, and creative execution/advertising – to apply the proper range of skills and experience to a challenge.

As a former journalist, he focuses not only what the client wants to say but also on how words and visuals might be received by a skeptical audience. Winning support and fending off attacks requires answering many questions up front and putting the recipient at ease with the client’s position and actions.

Brent holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Georgia State University in Atlanta. His efforts outside the office often are focused on local civic and political issues – particularly those related to transportation and urban development.
